Group D #1 Nigeria - Ghana 1:0(0:0)

Ghana, like Guinea and Cameroon, are a team whose style is characterised by individual qualities and strength in one on one challenges. From a defensive formation opponents, when in possession, are pressured. When themselves in possession, only a limited number of players attack and fluent passing is not one of the major qualities here.
To avoid running into the trap naively the opponents have to play patient, carefully and pragmatically themselves so that often matches look a bit scrappy or fragmented, to change into a sudden highlight situation here and then..
Those are becoming more in number during the course of matches because neither the wannabe-Italians (or schould I say wannabe Chelseas?) from Ghana nor the anyway more 'relaxed' Nigerians can keep up concentration for the entire 90 minutes.
Nigeria has the better individual potential and so logiacally won the match when after 81 minutes the sleepy Ghanaians were discussing the possibility of building a free kick wall with their keeper without securing the ball.
Nigeria quickly took the free kick (remember Argentina - Nigeria 1994) and supertalent Taiwo hammered the ball from 30 meters in Roberto Carlos style into the far corner.
