Group A #4 Egypt - Morocco 0:0
A tough match, still of good quality, with two concentrated performances, a few chances, which could have changed the outcome in one or the other direction.

The consequence: Côte d'Ivoire are qualified for the quarter finals, Egypt need a draw in their last match to be safe.

Group A #3 Libya - Côte d'Ivoire 1:2(1:1)
Only two goalkeeping errors by the Libyan substitute keeper prevented the Côte d'Ivoire from a shock result in their second group match.
The favorite began strong, took the lead through Drogba, and had additional goal scenes.
But in the feeling of superiority Libya was granted more and more space for their passing game.
Before halftime the problems in the Ivorian defence against crosses became evident again and Libya scored the equalizer through a header.
The second half saw continously growing confidence on one side and panic on the other. After one of the finest passing sequences of the whole tournament Libya hit the goalpost.
When Libya started to get tired a bit, the Ivorians scored through a header after a goalkeepiung and defence error (Yaya Touré)

Group A #2 Morocco - Côte d'Ivoire 0:1(0:1)
On a bumpy pitch only a fragmented game developed. Both teams with a careful approach in ball possession and thus constantly under pressure from opponents and the pitch.
Conspicious the problems of the Ivorian central defenders, though professionals with Arsenal London. Eboué and Kolo Touré looked especially odd at crosses, but most of the Moroccan attempts were mistimed.
Anyway, Youssef Hadji had three opportunities ('29, '53, '73), missing the target each time by a close margin. Two dangerous headers by Chamakh added to.
The Côte d'Ivoire had to play with out Aruna Dindane who left Egypt because of a familiy tragedy. They did look less compact and less creative than in the friendlies against France, Romania, and Italy.
The goal came from a penalty which Drogba converted perfectly after he was fouled ('38). Drogba had to be replaced after 60 minutes because of an apparent small injury.
The Ivorians only had had one other great chance before and few dangerous attacks against a crowded Moroccan defence which was never exposed, even towards the end of the match.
Both keepers looked odd when under (physical) pressure.
Refereeing confirmed the image of African refereeing has more problems with offside, many wrong decisions, always against the attackers, here the Côte d'Ivoire.

#1 Egypt - Libya
Egypt had lost their last preperation match 1:2 against South Africa and the country nervously awaited the first match.
Libya has to replace two suspended oplayers and the injured skipper Tarek El Taib
1st half:
- Libya begin agressive
- Libya conspiciously vulnerable against any kind of crosses from the flanks
- consequence: Mido shakes off his marker and scores by a header from a well timed corner ('17)
- Egypt with confidence: #22 Abo Treka scores by a brilliant free kick ('22)
- the referee with a lenient approach concerning mistimed challenges but not when runnining too early out of the wall at a freekick
- Libya with a couple of dangerous scenes at the half hour mark
- for the rest of the half Egypt in control again, a couple of half chances
- halftime 2:0
2nd half:
- Libya looks disillusioned
- after 60 Minutes Tarek El Taib comes on for Libya and for a few minutes the team has confidence, some neat comibinations but Egypt retakes control
- after 75 minutes the Libyan keeper misjudges a bouncing ball and fouls the broken through Egyptian player - penalty
- he receives his 2nd yellow card and leaves the pitch in tears. A great scene of sportsmanship as the Libyan players try to encourage and console him
- the substitute keeper saves the penalty by Mido but Bakarat converts the rebound - 3:0
- Libya looks tired
final result 3:0
resummee:
Egypt began exploiting the weakness of Libya - crosses from the flanks, but lost that receipe during the course of the match.
In Mido they have what many North African teams often miss: a goalscorer in tight situations
Some foolish yellow cards taint the success
Libya depend on whether they can control the ball.
If their opponents are agressive and use the flanks they are only 2nd rank.
