Group C #4 Tunisia - South Africa 2:0(1:0)
In pouring rain, South Africa could not establish their strategy, and the greater width of tools spoke for the North Africans, who also profited again from the 'FC Santos' effect.
The striker scored early in the game, a goal that was reverted by a questionable offside decision.
South Africa exactly had one big opportunity to turn the game, when McCarthy and Zuma stripped the ball off Jaidi deep in the Tunisian half, but McCarthy only hit the goalpost.
It was McCarthy, too, who mispassed the ball to Santos who did not hesitat to fire the ball through the arms of the surprised keeper for Tunisia to take the lead.
After Ben Achours 2:0 after 58 minutes the game was practically over.

Group C #1 Tunisia - Zambia 4:1(1:1)
Zambia played an adventerous interpretation of a kind of 'football total' (coach Kalusha Bwalya had been a long year PSV Eindhoven midfielder). Whenever an opportunity opened the Zambians attacked very quickly with a great number of players, surprising the more coventionally thinking Tunesians who seemed to have problems to adapt to this approach.
Surprising how Zambia could keep up that intensive running game for 90 minutes.
The Tunisians were physically superior. In defence this was rather a disadvantage against the quickly moving Zambian forwards but in attack the Tunisians clearly had the edge in set pieces although they blew a handful of great opportunities coming from the air superiority..
Eventually Tunisia succeeded thanks to the cold finishing of Brasilian import Santos, who scored three times 1:1('36), 3:1('83), and 4:1('90+3).
Zambia who had taken the lead after 7 minutes ironically dominated the second half until the third Tunesian goal and were unlucky at two occasions when Mbesuma missed once close and was denied by the keeper a second time after fine combinations.
Tunisia had scored their second goal after 51 minutes through a header after one of those set pieces who were poison for the Zambian defence.

Title holders. Having build a well organised football infrastructure during recent decades (compared Africawide) which seems to guarantuee success even with the limited talent that a small population base can offer.
Europe comparisons: Sweden, Danmark
Clubs: top in Africa
Squad: mixed, many professionals at Europe, not all with a regular first team spot, several well homebased players
Coach: European. (Roger Lemerre, French).
A consistent build up under Roger Lemerre has produced a strong squad which weak spots have been filled by naturalised Brazilians. Lemerre is trying to fight the minority complex on intercontinental level but on African level the Tunisians rather feel superior and often play with confidence, especially at home.
They will have to transfer this to Egypt to be successful, nearly like Egypt the Tunisians are very much dependent on the psychological factor. They are helped by a relatively easier group but this cannot be take for granted as the potential of some opponents is still high.
Stability under Lemerre should provide a good result.
Stars: Trabelsi, Badra, Jaisi (defenders), Santos (striker, Toulouse).
Promising: Ben Arfa.
